Flowers are exchanged as gifts today, with a touch of romance and love or placed as a sign of remembrance. In the Victorian era the connotations of flowers spun much wider due to the strict social etiquette which limited human interaction. Varying dictionaries of meanings were even developed which lead to many misunderstandings concerning the intended sentiment.
